Belvedere Art Studio & Gallery 970-731-1619 2363 Eagle Dr | Pagosa Springs 2019 Arts Council Activities Holiday Business After Hours The Arts Council was thrilled to host the 2019 Holiday Business after Hours. We had a great turnout, delicious food from Alley House Grille, and fun raffle items. And, we displayed beautiful pieces created by Arts Council members. Seeds of Learning and the Arts Council collaborated to host Seeds' Donor Thank You holiday party. The Seeds board generously offered to jury a group exhibit of local artisans for the event. The variety of pieces, from fine art and glassware to jewelry and handmade gongs, added to the elegance of the evening. Even more wonderful was the fabulous concert performed by some of the Seeds students! PSAC participated in this year's Festival of Trees. Funds we raised went towards our "Excellence in Arts" scholarship program for high school seniors pursuing the Arts in college. We plan to be involved in the 2020 Festival of Trees. If you would like to join our Decorations Committee, email email@example.com. In the subject line, write "FOT". Thank you to all who supported our tree this year. Special thanks to Bank of Colorado for winning it! 4th Annual Art for the Animals Despite the icy roads, this year's Art for the Animals (AFTA) brought hundreds of holiday shoppers in from the cold. Featuring 20+ artisans selling one-of-a-kind arts and wares, AFTA is a collaboration between the Arts Council and the Humane Society of Pagosa Springs. This one-day event raises thousands of dollars, shared by the Shelter and the Arts Council. This year, space wass limited and we had to turn away interested artisans. This year we'll offer Early Bird pricing for artisans that wish to secure their spots early for AFTA V. If you'd like to receive a notification, send us an email with subject line "AFTA V Artisan" at firstname.lastname@example.org. In November, we hosted our annual member meeting & party. We elected our Executive Committee and then focussed on member feedback. We asked for your feedback and we heard that you want more opportunities to exhibit your work, the opportunity to teach and take creative workshops, and to see public art. (Did we forget anything?) We listened and look forward to meeting those requests in the coming year, and beyond. The Arts Council is for you. Thank you so much for taking the time to attend and also to share your feedback with us. This past Fall, we hosted the 2nd annual Mosaic Project, featuring 100's of 6x6 canvases created by community members, and placed together to form a beautiful mosaic that traveled from Town Hall to the Pagosa Medical Center. Funds raised for the event went toward our "Excellence in Arts" scholarship program. This year's 3rd annual Mosaic Project party will be held on Thursday, November 19. If you'd like to get started on some 6x6 canvases, please email email@example.com with subject line "Mosaic Canvas". You do not have to be an artist to create a canvas. And, you do not have to paint the canvas. We encourage unique ideas! Artwalk Wednesday This Summer & Fall, we sponsored Art Walk Wednesday events that included many of our extraordinary local galleries. Each month we alternated galleries in Downtown and Uptown and enjoyed fabulous After Parties thrown by participating galleries. Thank you to the galleries that joined in Art Walk Wednesday. And special thanks to the Art Walk committee members who volunteered a great deal of time to plan them. If you would like to join the Artwalk Committee, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. In the subject line, put "Artwalk". Last summer, the Arts Council was invited to participate in the 19th Hole Concert Series, sponsored by The Southwest Community Foundation. We were fortunate that local favorite, Bob Hemenger, played at our event. He brought in a big audience and helped us raise funds that went directly into our "Excellence in Arts" scholarship fund. Also last summer, the Arts Council and Humane Society collaborated to create one of Pagosa's first public art pieces. HSPS purchased a shipping container to store equipment in case of an evacuation (i.e., a wildfire). With it being one of the first things you see as you pull into the shelter, HS Director Mike Stoll invited the Arts Council to put our creative talents to work for the animals. Despite the stormy day, many artists and community members came out to paint the container and newly donated dog houses. Lots of fun for families, too! Thanks to everyone who came out to paint on that cold and wet day. Special thanks to Kathleen Steventon for creating a gorgeous mural of a kitten and puppy on one entire side. What a great way to greet shelter visitors! PSAC Awards $5,000 in Scholarships! As part of our updated 2019 strategic plan, the PSAC Board created a scholarship fund specifically for highschool seniors planning to pursue degrees in the arts. We named the program "Excellence in Arts", and set our sights on awarding funds by the end of the school year. Thanks to monies raised at various events, as well as very generous private donations, we raised $5,000 and awarded those funds to two amazing PS highschool seniors who are now pursuing their passions for the arts. If you would like to donate to our "Excellence in Arts" Program, please email email@example.com, with the subject line "EIA". Our hope is to award up to $10,000 to seniors at the end of this school year. Earlier in the year, former Pagosa Springs artist, Debra Ferrari, generously donated the proceeds from the sale of one of her paintings to the PS Arts Council. We're so grateful for your generosity, Deb. We miss you in Pagosa!Once again, we were pleased to collaborate with Rise Above Violence in their annual Art Above Violence exhibit, performance, and auction. This year, participating artists had the opportunity to display their work with the Arts Council for early viewing a month before the show. If you haven't seen the beautiful artwork on the wall at the Pagosa Springs Medical Center, then check it out next time you're there. Every quarter, the Arts Council hosts a juried Call for Artists and hangs the works of local artisans in the main hall. Several artists have sold their work from the program. This program benefits our members and provides something wonderful to view for those visiting the Center. Currently our Art Wall features local students' works. Watch for the Call for the Spring Wall! Last year the Arts Council offered Kaleidoscope, a program with numerous free workshops offered for underserved students and senior citizens in our community. Many local artisans generously donated their time to teach watercolor, pastel, abstract, felting, journaling, palette knife techniques and more. We are so grateful to our local artists for giving their time, and for the volunteers who assisted in the workshops. Special thanks to Jenna Waite-Gannon for organizing and hosting the workshops in her classroom at the PS High school. Calling All Artisans! Do you have a skill that you'd like to share? The project will be on the Goodman's wall and will begin in the spring. Watch for an upcoming Call for Artists for this exciting project!
Other Awesome Projects! The Mosaic Project Party will be November 19, AFTA V will kick off the holidays. Murals, exhibits, and workshops - oh my! Join us in the fun. More details to follow! As you can see we're pretty excited about what the future holds for the Arts Council, its members, and our community. We will do all that we can to support our local artists. With that in mind, please let us know what you're up to so we can share your news. All of us on the Arts Council Board are grateful for your feedback and support throughout the year.
