VISION
The Goodman’s mural is envisioned as a merger of western and contemporary art that will bring artwork into our downtown space and create an impactful work that can be enjoyed by locals and tourists alike. We would like a work of art that makes a statement, is vibrant, and can be enjoyed by all ages. We link projects with artists and lieses between the public and the artists to create artwork that will facilitate creative community in our town.
YOUR MURAL
Goodman’s has a solid history as a western wear staple for Pagosa. The mural should incorporate western themes and blend contemporary art aspects into the piece. This mural will be in the historic preservation district and we would recommend artist include Pagosan culture, history, heritage, or our environment with contemporary flare.
MURAL SITE
The artwork will be painted on the east facing wall of Goodman’s Department Store. It can start at the east window on the building and will continue on the east wall until the back of the building. Directly in front of the building is car parking that may block the bottom part of the mural from visibility when occupied, but we would love photogenic parts of the mural to be accessible for pedestrian traffic to take pictures. The site is property of Goodman’s and has been granted permission for the artwork.
MURAL DETAILS
The left side of the wall is two stories and slopes down to one toward the back of the building.
Mural artist will be responsible for design, fabrication, delivery and installation of the artwork within the given budget, including using appropriate paints for the surface and painting a sealant on top of the mural. The Arts Council and the Town of Pagosa will power wash the mural surface before the mural is installed. We expect the mural to have a lifespan of 10 years.
Mural Dimensions: Approx. 24 ft tall at the front of the building down to 12 ft at the back of the building. Approx. 136 ft. long
Wall Construction: Stucco
Please note, this mural is directly next to a sidewalk. This means that your design must be effective both close up and from across the street.
